Overview
For The Salty, a surf and wellness retreat, I refined the existing interior to better reflect the brand’s evolving vision. The goal was not to redesign from scratch, but to elevate the current spaces into a more premium, cohesive and expressive environment. The Salty brings together surf, wellness and community, creating places where guests can recharge, connect and explore. The challenge was to translate this balance into the interior, while allowing the space to support different rhythms throughout the day, from social and energetic to calm and restorative.
The scope included all communal and shared areas, from the pool and reception to lounges, yoga spaces, cinema, corridors and shared rooms. Wherever possible, existing furniture was reused and combined with locally sourced materials, such as Portuguese tiles, to create a more grounded and authentic result. The project is currently in the execution phase.
The Idea
The concept is built around contrast and transition. Inspired by the surrounding coastal environment, the interior moves from vibrant and expressive at the more social edges, to soft and calming as you move deeper into the space. Colours, textures and materials gradually shift to support this experience. Bold tones and playful elements reflect the energy of surf culture, while more muted palettes and natural materials introduce a sense of calm and retreat. By layering these atmospheres throughout the different spaces, the interior adapts to the diverse needs of its guests. A place that feels lively and welcoming, yet also grounded and restorative. An environment that mirrors The Salty’s identity: vibrant, approachable and quietly refined.
